In 2017, Athens Administrators’ Workers’ Compensation Department created the Athens Career Development Mentoring Program. This program is available for staff members at all levels within the Workers’ Compensation department. From Assistant Claim Examiners to Future Medical Examiners, from Claim Examiners to Supervisors, those in good standing are able to participate in the program which provides education and training to promote growth, expanded learning, and advancement opportunities.

The approved attendees are matched with a mentor from a higher job classification, preferably from the same office, who will work with them throughout the program. The participants adhere to a six month training curriculum based on their current position. Training is conducted by Athens staff members with expertise in specific technical areas or by strategic partners. Individuals who participate in the Career Development program have the opportunity to serve as a mentor, mentee or both throughout the course of the program.

Since the start of the program Athens has completed two highly successful training courses, with 32% of participants already promoted within Athens. The employees who have not yet been promoted are better trained to succeed in their current roles while continuing to prepare for opportunities to advance within Athens. Why is this important? With a shortage of claims professionals anticipated in the insurance industry in the coming years, Athens is further developing its own claims staff to ensure we are positioned to keep up with the current and future demand for well-trained talent at all levels.  This program meets our front line staff’s overall desire for continued learning and development and prepares them for potential promotional opportunities.  Additionally, by helping our employees reach their career goals, staff turnover is kept to a minimum, which provides stability for our clients and ensures the delivery of exceptional results.
